– From the Jack ‘The Bear’ Coonrod Collection
Gasser-racing legend Jack “The Bear” Coonrod has been, by all accounts, successful in life, in love and on the drag-racing track. His passion for all things loud, fast and made of metal was sparked at the young age of 16 through his older brother’s collection of Model A Fords stuffed with V-8 engines. He officially started racing at the age of 19 and was quickly dubbed “The Bear” for his unrelenting hustle on the track. And while Coonrod kept his racing endeavors exclusive to the use of cars, his broader interests shined through in his collecting. It wasn’t about how many wheels a machine sported—sets of two or four were equally attractive options—it was about whether the vehicle was equipped with an engine powerful enough to propel it forward at lightning-fast speeds.
As Coonrod’s reputation for being unbeatable on the strip continued to build, so too did his collection of cars and motorcycles.
